Residents fortunate enough to reside in one of the area’s only residential pockets are well served by retail, dining, and outdoor amenities. In spite of its name, Bramalea West Industrial Neighbourhood isn’t too far from everything on offer along the Queen Street Corridor and downtown Brampton. Its proximity to some of the city’s most talked-about attractions is just one of the things that make the Bramalea West Industrial so desirable.

Architecture

The architectural feel of Bramalea West Industrial is decidedly industrial. Shipping warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and industrial service workshops dominate all but a small minority of the perimeter roadways. 

 

There is a small but serviceable residential area that sits just north of Carleton Park. The homes around Clark Boulevard feature a few townhouse complexes as well as a modest selection of detached, two-storey homes with carports and single-car garages, with some bungalows mixed in. 

 

The primary concentration of apartment buildings is found north of Clark Boulevard bordering the Queen Street Corridor.

Things to Do in Bramalea West Industrial

Arts & Culture

This neighbourhood isn’t exactly known for its contributions to Canadian arts and culture. Guru Nanak Sikh Centre is a charitable organization that manages two Gurdwaras that service the local community, but Bramalea West Industrial is otherwise all industrial. 

 

Thanks to the area’s convenient location, residents are never far from some of the City of Brampton’s most talked about amenities. Bramalea City Centre isn’t too far north and downtown Brampton is just a few minutes west. As such, those that live north of Carleton Park scarcely even notice the neighbourhood’s lack of cultural landmarks. 

Shopping

Bramalea West Industrial is primarily industrial. There are consumer-facing retailers here too though. Warehouse-style discount stores, auto dealers, auto service shops, and home improvement supply stores can be found within this area’s borders. 

 

The neighbourhood benefits from being incredibly close to some of the city’s best consumer districts too. Bramalea City Centre is one of the largest shopping malls in Canada and is only 10 minutes away from the area. Downtown Brampton and the Airport Road/Highway 7 Business Centre aren’t very far from here either.

Restaurants & Dining

Not unlike shopping, residents may find themselves turning their gaze outward in search of reputable dining and restaurant experiences. They don’t have to look very far though. Bramalea City Centre and downtown Brampton offer more than enough delicious tastes to feast on. 

 

Radica’s Hot and Spicy and Calypso Hut both are popular with residents. Though they aren’t technically members of the Bramalea West Industrial neighbourhood, they are just a few minutes away in Brampton’s Queen Street Corridor area.

The southwest corner of Dixie and Clark Boulevard is where you’ll find the largest concentration of residential housing within the Bramalea West Industrial. It’s also conveniently where you’ll find the area’s largest swath of parkland. 

 

Carleton Park is renowned for its abundant birdlife and is a favourite landing spot among bird- watchers of all ages. Norton Place Park lies just north of Clark Boulevard and provides locals with 1.12 hectares of outdoor entertainment.

Recreation

If you’re just looking for a place to get out and stretch your legs, the in-town Carleton Park may be the place for you. If, however, you’re looking for something a bit more involved, you’re always welcome to travel north into Norton Place Park. This renowned park is home to a lake dock, multiple picnic areas, a soccer field, a playground, and two boardwalks along the area’s popular quarry lake. 

Transit & Commute Times

Getting in, out, and around the City of Brampton is best done with your own vehicle. Bramalea West Industrial is bordered by Highway 410, and is exceptionally close to Queen Street East, easing the way of a daily commute. 

 

You don’t necessarily need your own car to get around though. This neighbourhood is adequately served by Brampton Transit, which delivers thousands of local commuters to the Brampton GO Station in downtown Brampton. The affordable and reliable GO train can connect commuters to Union Station in under an hour.

Why is it called Bramalea West Industrial?

The name is as literal as one would expect. Bramalea West Industrial is named after West Drive, which runs parallel to Highway 410. The neighbourhood is also heavily composed of industrial businesses. 

The name Bramalea was created by combining the first three letters of both Malton and Brampton, and adding the popular British suffix “lea,” which means meadow. 

 

The area’s earliest settlers chose to name this place Brampton in honour of their hometown of Brampton, England. The neighbourhood is called Downtown Brampton due to its central location within the larger City of Brampton and the Brampton City Hall that lives within.
