Mount Pleasant, Brampton Neighbourhood Guide: A Vibrant Village

Mount Pleasant is an expertly designed urban village, featuring excellent walkability to a community centre, shopping, and a public square. The community square showcases skating and public art installations. 

Located in Northwest Brampton, this community is steps away from the GO station. Creditview Sandalwood Park is an expansive natural area nestled on the banks of the Credit River north of Mount Pleasant. New home developments continue to emerge in this community, which is not surprising given the surrounding commerce and the picturesque landscape.

This unique community was originally settled by James Hunter, an Irish immigrant. Hunter and his family were prosperous farmers and the Hunter descendants continued to operate farms in the area until the early 1900s.

Throughout the 1900s, the area remained undeveloped until the Mount Pleasant GO Station opened in 2005. This was the impetus for the creation of Mount Pleasant Village, Brampton’s first “New Urbanism” neighbourhood designed for walkability and inclusive amenities.

This charming village showcases an assortment of housing styles, catering to all levels of income and luxury. Detached homes and townhouses blend with low-rise condominium buildings. This heritage-style village showcases architectural details from bygone styles like Tudor, Georgian and Arts and Craft.

To further beautify the surroundings, the garages are located at the rear of the homes in hidden laneways. Even the street signs are well-thought-out to add to the charm of this village.

Mount Pleasant continues to expand with new home developments, like The Neighbourhoods of Mount Pleasant. When completed, this community will feature 237 units, consisting of townhomes and single-family houses.

This unique village has a public square that features public art installations and a children’s playscape. A large reflecting pool transforms into a vibrant skating rink in the wintertime. A revitalized historic Canadian Pacific Railway station is showcased in the civic square and reminds locals of the community’s historic roots. 

The public art installations include the Trestle Bridge sculpture by Ron Baird. This 2011 artwork depicts the trestle bridge traversing the forks of the Credit River.

Residents of this unique village don’t have to leave home to access gourmet shops, salons, spas, barbers, restaurants, and fashion boutiques. Surrounding the town square, commercial buildings house a variety of specialty stores in traditional heritage architecture.

A short drive away, Fortinos on Worthington Avenue features quality food. At Sandalwood Parkway and Chinguacousy Road, you’ll find a FreshCo, and a No Frills is further south down Chinguacousy.

The Apple Factory Farm Market just west of this neighbourhood has been a landmark in the community for 40+ years. The general store sells old-school salad dressings, sauces, dips, and more that you won’t find at a mainstream grocer.

Residents don’t have to leave home to find diverse cuisine. Biryani Culture is in the village in a quaint heritage-style building and features homestyle halal Pakistani food. 

Pane Fresco inside Fortinos serves 19 varieties of pizza, 13 varieties of soups, sushi, and sandwiches with vegan options. On the same street, you’ll find Popeye’s for a quick meal.

On Brisdale Drive, Hakkalicious features tantalizing Hakka Chinese cuisine. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, a Tim Hortons provides custom coffee.

Angus Morrison Park is the site of the four-kilometre Mount Pleasant Recreational Trail and a small playground. This centrally located park is in the middle of subdivisions and offers a focal point for families to gather. Another natural area is Fletcher’s Parkette, which features a playground and a sports field.

At the north end of the neighbourhood, Trudelle Park has an attractive gazebo providing shade and a small playground.

Further north is the 40-hectare Creditview Sandalwood Park. In 2018, the park introduced the unique Creditview Activity Hub, which was the first of its kind in Ontario. This playground is an all-inclusive entertainment centre and is accessible to children with disabilities. 

This massive park nestled next to the Credit River also provides a venue for soccer, football, and lacrosse. A picnic shelter encourages large gatherings of up to 50 people and parking can accommodate 1,000 vehicles.

The residents of Mount Pleasant Village support their own community centre and library. The Mount Pleasant Community Centre features a gymnasium and a playground, in addition to the outdoor skating rink in the community square.

This charming village is home to its own unique GO station. Mount Pleasant GO is defined by a picturesque clock tower and provides both rail and bus transit services. From this station, you’ll reach downtown in about 50 minutes. Brampton’s Züm rapid transit service provides local bus routes in this community for quick, accessible transportation.

If you’re driving, just east of Mount Pleasant, Highway 410 will take you downtown in about 40 minutes.

Bike trails at nearby Creditview Sandalwood Park and the Mount Pleasant Trail provide a relaxing way to travel to shopping or recreational destinations. A multi-use recreational trail that connects to Mount Pleasant is currently being developed.

Mount Pleasant is a distinct community of homes constructed in a unique heritage style.  Featuring a community square with ice-skating and public art, this charming neighbourhood is near highways and a large scenic park on the banks of the Credit River.
