Named after the Gothic Revival castle that Toronto is famous for is none other than the neighbourhood of Casa Loma. This upscale residential neighbourhood located just north of downtown Toronto is bound by Dupont Street to the south, Bathurst Street to the west, Avenue Road to the east, and Lonsdale Road to the north, and is only 10 minutes by car from downtown. Beyond the beauty of one of North America’s last remaining castles looming over the neighbourhood, there are many features that attract residents to Casa Loma. First, the area is surrounded by parks and ravines, including Cedarvale Ravine, Nordheimer Ravine, and Sir Winston Churchill Park. This means that there are plenty of spaces to go for a walk, hike, or cycle in the city, as well as places to have a picnic or bring young children. Second, the shopping in Casa Loma is excellent. There are shopping districts along both Bathurst Street and St. Clair West, in addition to the nearby Forest Hill Village. Plus, residents have easy access to Yorkville’s high-end boutiques and Bloor Street’s “Mink Mile,” which are just a short distance south of Casa Loma. Transportation to and from Casa Loma is made easy thanks to the St. Clair West subway station, as well as several bus and streetcar stops. Given all of these amenities, it’s easy to imagine that Casa Loma is one of the most exclusive neighbourhoods in Toronto. The housing market in this area is a difficult one to get into, due to the small size of the neighbourhood coupled with the high demand for the area. The reality is that Casa Loma has been in high demand since the establishment of the Casa Loma castle in 1911, which first put the neighbourhood on the map. But if you can afford to live here, it is a lovely part of Toronto to call home.
