The Township of Langley is home to the Fort Langley National Historic Site, which is one of the area’s main attractions. It is a former fur trading post that was once used by the Hudson’s Bay Company. Today, the site consists of a visitor’s centre that educates guests on the history of fur trading in the region, as well as a reconstructed trading post containing ten unique structures. The original fort dates back to 1827, although it burned down and was rebuilt in the mid-19th century. Fort Langley continued to be used by the Hudson’s Bay Company until 1886, though it was abandoned after that. The Government of Canada acquired it in 1923 and made it a National Historic Site of Canada.
