History
The original settlement of Brampton started south of Sandringham-Wellington near the intersection of present-day Queen Street East and Main Street. Both were members of the Methodist movement, a denomination of Protestant Christianity. Brampton was incorporated as a village in 1853. By that time, the community had a tavern, two stores, two blacksmiths, and a cabinetmaker. The population of Brampton grew rapidly after the arrival of the Grand Trunk Railway station, which ushered in more businesses and workers.
