Images of Canadian homes that resemble cottages

Cherry blossoms are kind of a big deal in Canada. When the iconic pink-hued trees bloom each spring, hordes of people flock to parks to take in the colourful displays of early spring. Traditionally, the practice is known as hanami, a Japanese term that translates to flower viewing. Although the trees are endemic to China, they have been adopted as Japan’s national flower, and they’ve also spread all across the northern hemisphere — including in major Canadian cities of Toronto and Vancouver. Both cities have even been gifted examples from Japan.

Since these trees bloom in late April and early May, we scanned the Wahi listings for homes for sale where you can watch the cherry blossoms bloom. Check them out below.

Canadian homes with pools

List price: $6,290,000

A stone’s throw from High Park — which lays claim to dozens of cherry blossom trees for prime viewing — you’ll find a 5,000-square-foot three-level home with French design inspo. When the blossoms aren’t in bloom, you can take in ravine views from the cozy breakfast nook. Or head to the lower-floor wet bar and rec room with a fireplace and wine storage.

Here’s a sprawling 22-acre estate with its very own cherry blossoms. They’re part of the property’s resort-style grounds, which include a pool, cabana, fire feature, and orchards. The home’s vacation vibes match the surrounding area, which is a popular southern Ontario all-season getaway endowed with ski resorts, golf courses, trails, and more.

Nestled on a quiet cherry-blossom lined street, this impressively-preserved seven-bedroom house boasts stunning views of the neighbourhood — and beyond — as seen from the private rooftop patio. There are also various balconies and decks incorporated into the home, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, making this home a veritable blossom observatory.

“Located in one of Vancouver Island’s most-desirable family-friendly neighbourhoods, this modest character home gives you a front-row seat to cherry blossoms,” reads the description from this character home’s listing.

Cherry blossoms proudly overlook this home’s residential street, which is mere blocks from Saanich Gorge Park, itself a prime blossom-spotting locale overlooking the scenic Gorge Waterway inlet. Built in 1922, the two-bedroom home has been thoughtfully updated to meet more contemporary needs.

Yukon Street is one of Vancouver’s top destinations for Japanese cherry flowering trees — at least according to local bloggers. That’s no small distinction in a city bursting with tens of thousands of these Asian trees.

It’s a good thing, then, that this corner townhouse unit boasts a Yukon Street address as well as a wooden rooftop deck for your own private blossom viewing.
