The Beaches at a glance

Tranquil, quiet, and next door to some of the best beaches in Toronto, after which the neighbourhood is named, you can’t go wrong by calling The Beaches home. This east end neighbourhood is less than 20 minutes from the downtown core, with a multitude of transit options, including the streetcar, bus, and subway access to the north via Danforth Avenue. Despite its premium location within the city, The Beaches has a distinct, small-town vibe, which is what makes it so appealing to families. Given that it is situated on Lake Ontario, one of the area’s biggest attractions are its beaches. Woodbine Beach, Balmy Beach, and Kew-Balmy Beach can all be found here, in addition to the many parks and gardens that flank them. You will likely not be surprised to learn that The Beaches is a popular summer destination among locals and tourists alike. Some of the most popular outdoor activities here include swimming, boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, and beach volleyball. Beyond the proximity to the water, The Beaches has so much else going for it. Top-notch schools, tons of shopping and dining options along Queen Street East, and a wide range of modern and turn-of-the-century homes is what you will find here. There are also several festivals and events held throughout the year, including the Beaches International Jazz Festival. Further, The Beaches is home to multiple cinemas, including the historic Fox Theatre (which also happens to be North America’s oldest continuously operated movie theatre), the Ashbridge Bay Yacht Club, and Kew Gardens. When it comes to schools, there is no shortage of highly-ranked options, including Malvern Collegiate Institution, Courcelette Public School, and Balmy Beach Community School. Given all that this Toronto neighbourhood has to offer, it likely won’t come as a surprise that living in The Beaches comes at a price. But if you can afford the hefty price tag, it is a truly wonderful place to call home.
