Canadian real estate has attracted some big names over the years. The star-studded lineup of Canada’s famous homebuyers includes an unmistakable American fast-food mogul, one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, and some prime examples of homegrown Canadian talent as well. Here’s a roundup of 12 household names who have owned Canadian Real Estate at some point.

1. In 1965, Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Colonel Harland David Sanders relocated to Mississauga, where he purchased an unassuming bungalow following the sale of his stake in the fast-food empire that he built from the ground up. The humble abode would remain his primary residence until his death in 1980.

2. After partying like it was 1999, the Artist Formerly known as Prince settled in Toronto with his then-wife, Manuela Testolini, a Canadian businesswoman, in the early-2000s. The couple shared a 14,000-square-foot mansion in the Bridle Path until divorcing in 2006. The home sold the next year.

3. Halle Berry owned a vacation estate in Saint-Hippolyte, Que., but she sold it in 2013 for $1.2 million — and a staggering loss of $400,000 from what she paid just five years prior. With an estimated net worth of $90,000,000, the A-list actress likely isn’t losing any sleep over her real estate misstep.

4-5. British Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Elvis Costello and his wife, Diana Krall — a formidable Canadian jazz musician in her own right who has sold 15 million records globally — reportedly own a home and studio in Nanoose Bay, near Nanaimo.

6. The 6ix God Drake continues to maintain his Beaux Arts-inspired new build on Toronto’s in Bridle Path. He unveiled the home to wide fanfare in 2019 (check out 14 other celebrities who own Ontario real estate).

7. In 2011, Mark Wahlberg shelled out $12 million for a 4,600-square-foot penthouse perched atop the 36Hazelton development. While he doesn’t live in the unit, he’s a regular visitor and even owned a Toronto burger joint until recently (it was called Wahlburgers, get it?).

8-9. Hollywood power couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn owned a historic Vancouver mansion between 2002 and 2005. The move was reportedly spurred by their son Wyatt, who was playing hockey in the city at the time.

10. Canadian actor Simu Liu, known for roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Barbie,” owns real estate in Toronto and Los Angeles, according to a 2021 interview with Wealth Simple. He’s also had a hand in real estate development, collaborating with Capital Developments and Reserve Properties on a mixed-use Toronto high-rise.

11. Burnaby-born singer/songwriter Michael Bublé built a custom 27,000-square-foot residential compound just across the street from his childhood school. With an assessed worth of $25,529,000, it is also the most valuable home in Burnaby (and 38th in B.C. overall).

12. Though actor and comedian Jim Carrey was born in Canada, he left the country at the tender age of 19 to try and make it in Hollywood — and make it he did. However, he’s kept in touch with his Canadian roots as the owner of a cottage on Baptiste Lake, not far from Bancroft, Ont., Hello! reports.
