Designer Jennifer Woch’s Favourite Room
When designer Jennifer Woch tackled the redesign of the primary bedroom in her older bungalow in Edmonton, she had a mission: “It was important to me that my bedroom be a reflection of me and what makes me feel happy and calm.” With that in mind, she carefully set to reconfiguring the space and curating the décor.

“I love that I can lay in bed and see the flowers in my garden.”
– Jennifer Woch
The room was small, without a lot of closet storage, but with a few tweaks I was able to create a more pleasing aesthetic and make better use of the small space.
First, I had a wall opened up to incorporate a closet from the hallway into the bedroom. The ensuite had a big footprint, but the space was wasted so I shrunk the ensuite down and used that extra space for a second closet that sits opposite the closet I stole from the hallway. I closed off the original bedroom closet and used that space to widen my front entry.
The primary bedroom also felt dim with only one window, so I had a second window put in with a view of my back garden. I specifically used a vertical window and offset it on the wall for more interest and to provide a better view of the garden.

Jennifer installed a second window in her primary room so she could have views of her garden.

That’s a hard one, because I was so mindful in selecting only things I love! I adore the artwork. Each piece has special meaning to me for one reason or another.
In order to give a more open spacious feel, I used a glass panelled door on the ensuite. I painted the door frame a soft green, and that subtle detail is one of my favourites. That small splash of green is unexpected and adds character to the room.

Jennifer carefully selected furniture and art work to bring a whimsical and warm feeling to the room.
