Housing Affordability Improves (Slightly), and Demand for Recreational Properties On the Rise
Every Friday, Wahi brings you the most important real estate stories from the past week.
Josh Sherman is a staff writer at Wahi. Working directly with Wahi’s data and marketing teams, Josh is responsible for crafting any kind of real estate content that you can imagine: in-depth reports, trending articles, and attention-grabbing releases for media, to name a few.
Examples of his work include his monthly Market Pulse reports, which gauge bidding activity in major Canadian housing markets, as well as unique studies, such as this one that looked into how much parking adds to the cost of Toronto condos.
Campaigns and other content that Josh has contributed to has garnered coverage in major news outlets, including the Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Sun, Canadian Press, blogTO, Daily Hive, and many others.
Josh has more than a decade of experience in journalism and copywriting. He began his career in earnest as an intern at Spacing, a quarterly print magazine focusing on Canadian urbanism, in 2012. He continues to contribute to the magazine to this day and is currently serving as its acting Arts + Books Editor, overseeing the review section.
Before joining Wahi in January 2023, Josh was operating his own freelance-writing business. While Josh has held several staff positions over the years, he’s remained an active freelancer throughout, racking up bylines with publications including the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Globe and Mail, StarMetro, and dozens of others. He has also provided SEO-writing services to clients for both B2B and consumer audiences.
Through his various roles, Josh has had a hand in every part of the media-production process, from photography and newspaper layout, to breaking news and editing and managing a roster of writers.
In 2017, between stints at real estate publications, he was the lone reporter at Beach Metro Community News, one of Canada’s longest-running non-profit community newspapers. He continues to indulge his passion for community news by contributing articles to Post City Magazine, a monthly midtown Toronto print magazine, and, occasionally, Beach Metro.
Josh studied Journalism at Humber Polytechnic, where received an advanced diploma with honours.
Josh hasn’t won any journalism awards (yet), but he has owned and operated his freelance-writing business since 2022.
Working as a music journalist for the magazines VICE, NOW Toronto, and Exclaim! Josh was paid to go to parties and got to see some of his favourite DJs spin for free (and, of course, write nuanced reviews, profiles, and news stories).
Josh covers everything Canadian real estate. He keeps readers informed about the latest market trends and touches on a wide array of topics including government policy, economics, tech, architecture, interior design, and more.
Josh loves how much his work varies from day to day at Wahi. One day, he could be working on a market report or article and the next liaising with journalists at one of Wahi’s media events. He also enjoys learning more about marketing and educating Canadians about the homebuying process. He believes Wahi plays an important role by empowering homebuyers with access to data and insights. He also loves the collaborative nature of his role, as well as the dynamic, smart, and fun team he feels lucky to be a part of.
He would be a disco DJ.
You’ll find Josh reading or writing fiction and poetry, mixing records in his home music studio, or — from June to September — lazing around poolside or at the beach.
