East York is a historic township in Toronto, with a prime location just 25 minutes northeast of the downtown core. The municipality is immediately north of the Danforth and is known for its quiet, small-town charm despite its distinctly urban location. The area boasts a mix of senior residents and young families due to the wide range of housing opportunities available here. As one of the more affordable neighbourhoods in Toronto, residents can find everything from high-rise apartment buildings to modern, newly-constructed homes in East York. Even more, the municipality is home to a variety of local businesses, including bakeries, cafes, clothing stores, and produce shops. Due to its proximity to the Danforth, you can also find several of the city’s top Greek restaurants nearby. Transportation is also top-tier, with plenty of TTC bus services and multiple subway stations along Line 2, including Donlands, Pape, Coxwell, Greenwood, Woodbine, and Chester. In terms of recreation, East York residents can take advantage of the East York Tennis Club, Dentonia Park Tennis Club, East York Collegiate, the Dentonia Park Golf Course, Stan Wadlow Park, East York Memorial Arena, the East York Curling Club, and the Dieppe Park Sports Complex. Here, locals can partake in a multitude of sports and recreational activities, including tennis, golf, curling, swimming, hockey, soccer, skating, cycling, and baseball. There are also multiple community centres and libraries in the area, like the S. Walter Stewart Library, the Dawes Road Library, the Secord Community Centre, and the Terry Fox Community Centre, which host a myriad of recreational and cultural programs throughout the year. Overall, if you’re looking for a welcoming and family-friendly place to call home with relatively affordable housing and proximity to the Entertainment and Financial Districts of Toronto, you can’t go wrong with calling East York home.
