Located in downtown Toronto, Regent Park is nestled between Cabbagetown and the Don River and dates back to the 1940s. What was originally developed as a public housing project managed by the City of Toronto has come a long way in the last near-century. Since the early 2000s, developers have been working hard to transform the area. Today, an area that was once characterized by high crime is now characterized by green parks, including the six-acre Regent Park after which the neighbourhood is named, high-rise luxury condos, and a plethora of grocery stores, coffee shops, and restaurants. The revitalization of Regent Park has led to a surge in new residents, with condos and rental homes being built all throughout the region. Regent’s Park’s boundaries are Gerrard Street East to the north, River Street to the east, Shuter Street to the south, and Parliament Street to the west. This convenient location on the city’s east end means that it’s just a 10 minute drive from downtown Toronto and is well-served by public transit. Multiple TTC streetcar and bus routes make their way through the neighbourhood. Plus, it is located near the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway. Known for the diversity of its residents and a wide range of housing options, Regent Park is one of the city’s most up-and-coming areas. Plus, it’s only going to get better. The city’s revitalization project is still underway, with more phases to be unveiled in the years to come. Fun fact: Regent Park was the setting of the popular CBC original series, Kim’s Convenience.
