There are a total of five schools in New Glasgow: North Nova Education Centre, East Pictou Middle School, Trenton Middle School, New Glasgow Junior High School, and Thorburn Consolidated. There are also two privately operated schools in New Glasgow, Way of Truth Christian Academy and New Glasgow Academy. As for post-secondary education, there are no universities or colleges in New Glasgow. However, St. Francis Xavier, a major public liberal arts university in the Maritimes, is just over half an hour away in Antigonish. Further, nearby Truro is home to Nova Scotia Teachers Colleges, and Wolfville, which is two hours away, has Acadia University. As for air travel, the closest major airport to New Glasgow is Halifax Stanfield International Airport, which offers daily flights to cities all over Canada and the world. Greater Moncton Romeo LeBlanc International Airport in Dieppe, New Brunswick is a similar distance from New Glasgow in the opposite direction and it also offers a range of domestic and international flights. If you prefer to get around by car, New Glasgow’s central location is ideal. Motorists can get around via Highway 106 and Highway 104, both of which run directly through the town. The downtown core is full of fun for the whole family, with everything from restaurants and pubs to boutique clothing shops, and gift stores. There is also a riverfront marina, performing arts centre, town hall, library, and many office buildings. Even better, there is a major revitalization plan in the works to make downtown New Glasgow even more enticing. Part of these plans involve improvements to the town hall, expanding the library, and building a pedestrian bridge that connects the marina with the Samson Trail (a popular walking trail that runs through downtown). So while downtown New Glasgow was previously an industrial area, it is slowly growing to become one of the nicest parts of the town.
