Just ten minutes east of downtown Toronto lies the funky, eclectic, and highly-desirable neighbourhood of Riverdale. Part of Toronto’s east end and sandwiched between Leslieville and Cabbagetown lies Riverdale. Named after its prime location bordering the Don River, Riverdale has quickly become a go-to neighbourhood in the city. Known for its cute homes, independent shops, and a multitude of trendy cafes, restaurants, and bars, Riverdale has something for everyone - literally! It happens to be one of Toronto’s most diverse communities, encompassing East Chinatown, Blake-Jones, Riverside, and the Studio District. The perfect blend of industrial and residential, locals will find everything from quiet, tree-lined streets to vibrant, colourful intersections to warehouses and production studios. The northern part of Riverdale borders the Danforth, giving residents easy access to Greektown and the many festivals, restaurants, shops, and music venues that the Danforth offers. Unlike in other parts of the city, parks and parkettes abound here in Toronto’s east end. Residents can enjoy Jimmie Simpson, which has its own recreation centre, along with tennis courts, a playground, and a wading pool, Withrow Park, and Riverdale Park East (with its unbeatable view of the Toronto skyline, it is a must-see at sunset). There are also several libraries and community centres in the area, with pools, baseball diamonds, and a broad range of arts, culture, and leisure programs. Transportation to and from Riverdale is extremely easy, with a multitude of TTC bus and streetcar routes, access to multiple subway stations on Line 2 including Pape, Broadview, Chester, Donlands, and Greenwood, and a convenient location next to the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway. The area is also home to Gerrard Square, a shopping complex with multiple big box stores and grocery stores. Overall, if you’re looking for a quieter place to call home that still has lots of character and charm, look no further than Riverdale.
