Pitt Meadows is a rural community situated along the Fraser River. It is roughly 45 minutes southeast of downtown Vancouver and is home to just 18,000 residents. Surrounded by lakes, rivers, and mountains, Pitt Meadows is a natural oasis, which makes it ideal for those who love to get outdoors year-round. In fact, did you know that the city has been nicknamed “The Natural Place?” After all, it sits next to the Fraser River, Pitt River, Pitt Lake, and Golden Ears Mountains. Opportunities for hiking, fishing, cycling, swimming, horseback riding, boating, and more abound here. There are also several golf and tennis facilities, like the Pitt Meadows Golf Club, Golden Eagle Golf Club, Meadows Garden Golf Course, and Swaneset Bay Resort & Country Club. Plus, there is green space for miles since Pitt Meadows is largely dominated by farmland. This is what gives the city its distinct country feel. And yet, it offers close proximity to both Vancouver and the nearby cities of Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. This allows residents to enjoy a slice of small town rural living but with all the amenities that the big city has to offer, especially when you consider that Pitt Meadows is just 20 minutes from Coquitlam and is easily accessible via the area’s major highways. Although Pitt Meadows is not serviced by Vancouver’s TransLink public transportation system, the West Coast Express train service connects Pitt Meadows with Vancouver (in fact, it takes only 40 minutes to reach downtown Vancouver from Pitt Meadows by train). That said, this Fraser Valley city has everything that residents could possibly need in their day to day lives, from supermarkets and big box stores to breweries, cafes, restaurants, theatres, and shopping (Osprey Village is a popular destination, known for its boutique shops). As a bonus, the area’s surrounding farms are an excellent place to shop for seasonal produce and fresh dairy and meat. If a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood in Metro Vancouver is what you’re after, you will surely love Pitt Meadows.

Quality and diversity of education in Pitt Meadows

Pitt Meadows is served by British Columbia School District No. 42, which services both Pitt Meadows and the neighbouring community of Maple Ridge. There are 27 schools operated by this school board, in addition to several religious and private educational institutions. Plus, residents have access to the many post-secondary institutions that the Metro Vancouver Area has to offer, including Simon Fraser University, located in the adjacent city of Burnaby. Farther into the City of Vancouver, you will find the University of British Columbia, Capilano University, Vancouver Film School, the Art Institute of Vancouver, and the Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

While Pitt Meadows is not serviced by Vancouver’s TransLink public transportation system, it is still easily accessible via the Lower Mainland’s network of highways, including the Trans Canada Highway and Highway 7. Plus, the West Coast Express train service transports passengers from Pitt Meadows to Vancouver in just 40 minutes. Coquitlam, another of the area’s largest cities, is just 20 minutes by car from Pitt Meadows. Meanwhile, if you need to fly somewhere, Pitt Meadows’ residents can travel to Vancouver International Airport in Richmond or take advantage of Abbotsford International Airport, located nearby in the Fraser Valley. Finally, when it comes to healthcare, Ridge Meadows Hospital can be found here, as well as several clinics. Residents will also have access to Vancouver’s many hospitals and healthcare facilities, like Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, and Vancouver General Hospital.

Safety and security for Pitt Meadows

In any sort of emergency, always call 9-1-1. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is tasked with keeping Pitt Meadows safe. Residents of the area won’t have to worry much about safety, though, as crime rates are low in this Fraser Valley community.
