Why live in Delta?

Delta is known for giving residents unparalleled opportunities to explore and enjoy the great outdoors. After all, the city is surrounded by water on all but one side. To the south, you have Boundary Bay, to the west is the Strait of Georgia, and to the north is the Fraser River. This means that whether you love to swim, hike, boat, paddle, or fish, you will have a place to do so in Delta. Even more, Delta is a major economic and transportation hub, with Vancouver’s main ferry terminal, Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, located here. Lastly, Delta is known for its excellent weather, which is yet another reason that the area is so appealing.

Quality and diversity of education in Delta

The Delta School District, or BC School District No. 37, runs 24 public elementary and 7 public secondary schools throughout Delta, along with the many private and religious institutions that operate in the area. Meanwhile, given that Delta is only 35 minutes south of Vancouver by car, residents will have access to the many post-secondary institutions that can be found there, including the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Capilano University, Vancouver Film School, the Art Institute of Vancouver, and the Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

Most populous cities in Delta

The four main neighbourhoods that make up Delta are Ladner, North Delta, Boundary Bay, and Tsawwassen.

Quality of infrastructure for Delta

Metro Vancouver Area’s TransLink public transit system services Delta, with many bus routes going into Delta. As of right now, there is no SkyTrain service to Delta. However, the SkyTrain can be taken as far as Richmond, the city immediately north of Delta. Further, since Delta is so close to Richmond, getting to the airport will be a breeze. Vancouver International Airport is roughly 25 minutes by car from Delta. The area is also home to its own regional airport, Boundary Bay Airport. If you frequently travel to the United States, the Peace Arch border crossing is only 30 minutes by car, and the Point Roberts border crossing is even less. When it comes to healthcare infrastructure, Delta Hospital and the North Delta Public Health Unit operate here, with several other hospitals being located nearby, like Richmond Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Safety and security for Delta

The Delta Police Department (DPD) is tasked with securing the Delta area, though Delta has historically been and continues to be a very safe community. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.

Delta property market

While still in high demand, Delta offers more affordable housing options than many other parts of Metro Vancouver. As a family-friendly community, buyers will find a range of property types here, like apartments, condos, bungalows, semi-detached homes, detached homes, and townhouses.

Standard of living in Delta

Delta offers a very high quality of life due to the areas waterfront location, abundance of green space, top-notch schools, and close proximity to the airport, U.S. border, and downtown Vancouver. But if you don’t believe us, just consider the fact that The Global Liveability Index 2023’s Liveability Report named Vancouver, which includes Delta, as the fifth most liveable city in the world.

Something wonderful about Delta

Delta was so named due to the fact that the community is situated at the delta of the Fraser River. For those that don’t know, a river delta is a triangular-shaped landform that is created when sediment is carried by a river and enters slower-moving water, such as a sea or ocean. Given the area’s name, it’s no surprise that so much of its appeal is due to its oceanfront location. Some of the top beaches in Delta include Centennial Beach, Beach Grove Beach, and Tsawwassen Beach. Boundary Bay Regional Park is also situated in the southeast part of Delta along the U.S. Border, which offers a range of activities for residents to enjoy year-round. Two other major waterfront parks in the area are Westham Island Park and Deas Island Regional Park.
