Home to schools, health centres, and high-quality sports facilities, both Clairlea and Oakridge are understated yet comfortable places to live. Clairlea is close to major shopping centres to the northeast and is known for the Providence Health Centre, which employs many residents. Oakridge is closer to the Danforth<\/a>, which offers residents a rich array of dining options from Macedonian to Bengali and many more cultural cuisines. Once a crossroad of a pioneer village called Moffat\u2019s Corners, Clairlea was developed into a suburban area in the 1950s. Until development occurred, it was primarily rural. Oakridge, south of Clairlea, developed similarly. The area evolved within the Scarborough<\/a> Junction postal delivery area that replaced the original post office on Victoria Park and St. Clair Avenue, one of Clairlea\u2019s bordering intersections. Connected to various railways, Scarborough<\/a> Junction was home to some of Scarborough\u2019s first residential neighbourhoods. Both Clairlea and Oakridge are positioned near major thoroughfares, St. Clair East and Danforth<\/a> Avenues. This makes the neighbourhood attractive for people travelling in and out of the city for work. Homes in Clairlea date back to the 1940s and 1950s and include bungalows, and storey-and-a-half and two-storey houses. New development around Warren Woods Ravine introduced townhouses and semi-detached homes to the area. Some of the houses in Oakridge date back to the 1910s. Clairlea and Oakridge are close to several local museums. Some of these include the Canadian Macedonian Historical Society, The Scarborough<\/a> Museum, and the Birchmount Fire Hall Museum. These museums tell the history of Scarborough<\/a>. The neighbourhoods are also close to The Second City on Danforth<\/a>, a well-known theatre for improv and stand-up comedians. The Children\u2019s Peace Theatre is inside nearby Taylor Creek Park. This theatre provides curating spaces for artists and their community members.
