On the north end of Burlington, Tansley Woods is a great place for families or retirees. There are many grocery stores and malls in the area, as well as community centres and parks. The nearby Bronte Creek Provincial Park is a prime destination for day trips, and there are many golf clubs with spectacular courses. There is a variety of options for housing in this area, including duplexes, two-storey, detached homes, and many apartment-style retirement homes. Indigenous Peoples such as the Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee lived in this area for centuries before European settlement. The French were some of the first settlers, soon followed by the British who eventually dominated the area by fighting wars in the 18th century. In 1784, Captain Joseph Brant was granted a large tract of land where he established the village of Wellington Square near the shore of Lake Ontario<\/a>. Wellington Square merged with Port Nelson in 1873 to form the village of Burlington<\/a>. Most houses have a small patio with decorative pillars and steps leading to the driveway. Many properties have front lawns and backyards and some have a large tree close to the street. The majority of structures have a brick exterior while others have stone or vinyl.
