min-width: 100% !important; border: none;\" height=\"750\" data-external=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the days leading up to each rate announcement, Wahi\u00a0 surveys upwards of a dozen real estate industry professionals, including economists at some of Canada\u2019s biggest banks as well as academics and analysts. Respondents to Wahi\u2019s Rate Outlook Panel are asked whether they anticipate a rate cut \u2014 and, if so, by how much \u2014 as well as the reasoning behind their decision.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the most decisive survey result since Wahi\u2019s Rate Outlook Panel began gauging market sentiment this March, when <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wahi.com\/ca\/en\/learning-centre\/real-estate-101\/buy\/march-2025-canadian-interest-rate-forecast\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just under two-thirds of respondents<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> accurately predicted a cut. It also represents a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wahi.com\/ca\/en\/learning-centre\/real-estate-101\/buy\/april-2025-canadian-interest-rate-forecast\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shift in sentiment from April<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when market-watchers were split on whether or not the BoC would further reduce rates. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the nine respondents who expect the central bank to remain on the sidelines cited economic uncertainty, particularly amid trade tensions with the U.S., as a cause for policymakers to take a wait-and-see approach. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt this point, I don\u2019t really think there\u2019s any reason for them to decrease their rates other than they\u2019re looking at employment data and assuming it will get worse,\u201d Jeremiah Shamess, head of Colliers\u2019 Private Capital Investment Group, tells Wahi.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Economic uncertainty is one of two main reasons that Frank Clayton, co-founder and senior research fellow at <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/wahi.com\/ca\/en\/real-estate\/on\/gta\/toronto\" title=\"Toronto\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2417\">Toronto<\/a> Metropolitan University\u2019s Centre for Urban Research and Land Development, anticipates a hold. \u201cSecondly, I think the growth has turned out to be a little bit better than people expected,\u201d he adds.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canada\u2019s economy surpassed growth expectations in the first quarter of the year.
