market-watchers<\/a> Wahi surveyed leading up to the announcement predicted. \u201cI believe the Bank of Canada will aim to mitigate any potential downturn by continuing to lower the rate in March, and quite possibly in subsequent announcements,\u201d Shawn Woof, senior vice president, sales, at Sotheby\u2019s International Realty Canada<\/a>, said in response to the survey.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In its rate cut announcement<\/a>, the central bank harkened back to a simpler time: early January. Same with over-inflation or under-inflation,\u201d he continues. \u201cThe BoC has limited visibility into the future and is rightfully trying to counteract a downturn before it catches momentum.\u201d<\/span>

<\/span>Asked how significant the latest cut is, Mclister estimates the extent to which some borrowers should benefit. \u201cIt’ll save most floating-rate borrowers over $240 a year, per $100,000 of mortgage or HELOC [home equity line of credit]\u201d, he says.<\/span>

<\/span>Of the cut, Victor Tran, mortgage expert at <\/span>rates.ca<\/span><\/a>, tells Wahi, \u201cEvery bit helps in an expensive housing market.\u201d<\/span>

<\/span>As for the impacts on the Canadian housing market at large, normally a rate cut would boost confidence \u2014 but these, of course, aren\u2019t normal times. \u201cPsychologically, rate cuts support real estate<\/a> sentiment (but in this case, perhaps not as much as tariffs harm it),\u201d Mclister adds.<\/span>
