This opportunity wo<\/span>uld require relocating from Toronto to Calgary<\/a>. <\/p>\n <\/span>\u201cI moved out here kicking and screaming,\u201d recalls MacPherson, who originally hails from Nova Scotia<\/a> but had spent 25 years building a life she loved in Canada\u2019s largest city. Five years after her reluctant relocation, though, she realized she wasn\u2019t moving back east \u2014 she\u2019d fallen for Calgary. \u201cI just felt good living here. I met a lot of very nice people, and I loved the diversity,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Since then, more and more Ontarians have been following in her footsteps. Drawn by the province\u2019s affordability, natural beauty, economy, or other reasons, nearly 40,000 people moved from Ontario to Alberta in 2023 as the Prairie province <\/span>smashed a national record<\/span><\/a> for interprovincial migration \u2014 and the trend continues.\u00a0 <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_code _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

<\/span>Today, in addition to her career as a Realtor<\/a>, MacPherson shares her love of Alberta through her work as a corporate relocation consultant, a role in which she helps such newcomers. \u201cI work for companies that have people who are relocating here to Calgary,\u201d she explains. \u201cI\u2019m like boots on the ground when someone arrives in the city,\u201d she says, noting she does everything from giving tours of the city to arranging rental arrangements and even doctor\u2019s appointments: <\/span>\u201cI always say, \u2018I wish I had me when I moved here from Toronto<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/span>Given the influx of people moving from Ontario to Alberta in recent years, Wahi caught up with experts for advice on what to expect, preparation tips, and how to know whether it might be the right move for you in 2025. \u201cI\u2019d start by learning a little bit about the city, because you can get cheap rents \u2014 but it may not be where you want to live,\u201d MacPherson advises. If you want to put down roots in Alberta, also take stock of the broader outlook for the province. While the province\u2019s economy has diversified, it still relies heavily on the energy sector. \u201cYou want to look at economic forecasts \u2014 you want to look at those types of things \u2014 I don\u2019t think you just up and jump and go,\u201d she continues. \u201cRead up as much as you can on a city to understand it,\u201d MacPherson adds.\u00a0
