Why live in Toronto?

There are plenty of reasons to live and love Toronto. Beyond its reputation as one of the most multicultural cities in the world, the Six has world-renowned entertainment, art, food, festivals, and a wide range of distinct neighbourhoods. Plus, it is home to some of the best healthcare and education institutions, which we will touch on below, and a booming housing market.

Quality and diversity of education in Toronto

Educational opportunities abound in Toronto. First, the city is home to the largest and most diverse school board in the country, Toronto District School Board. However, the region is also serviced by the Toronto Catholic School Board, the city’s two French-language school boards, Conseil scolaire Viamonde and Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud, and several private schools, including the top-ranked Upper Canada College, Crescent School, York School, Havergal College, and Crestwood Preparatory College. In terms of post-secondary institutions, the City of Toronto contains Toronto Metropolitan University, York University, OCAD University, George Brown College, Humber College, Seneca Polytechnic College, and last but not least, the University of Toronto, which is consistently ranked as one of the best global universities.

Most populous cities in Toronto

The most populous neighbourhoods within the City of Toronto include St. James Town, Church-Yonge, Bay Corridor, Kensington - Chinatown, Waterfront West, Annex, Waterfront Central, Moss Park, Regent Park, and Yorkville. Meanwhile, some of the neighbourhoods that have experienced the highest growth rates in the past five years include Liberty Village, the Distillery District, Old Toronto, North York, and South Etobicoke.

Quality of infrastructure for Toronto

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is located on Toronto’s downtown waterfront. Meanwhile, Toronto’s main international airport is actually not located in the City of Toronto but in the neighbouring City of Mississauga. However, it can be easily accessed by public transit and the recently-launched Union-Pearson (UP) Express train line. In terms of public transit, Toronto residents can take advantage of the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) extensive network of buses, streetcars, and subways, which cover the majority of the city. There are also many plans in the works to expand public transit in the city, such as with two new subway extensions: the brand-new 15.6-kilometre Ontario Line and the extension of Line 2. GO Transit, operated by Metrolinx, offers intra-regional public transit service, connecting the City of Toronto with the Greater Toronto Area, while Via Rail offers access to cities big and small throughout the country. Both Go Transit and Via Rail have hubs at Toronto Union Station.

Safety and security for Toronto

Toronto consistently strives to be one of the safest, most secure cities for its residents, and it’s succeeding in its mission. The city’s crime rates are far below the national average and these rates continue to decrease year after year.

Toronto property market

The Toronto property market is one of the strongest in the country. Whether you’re looking to buy your first home or purchase an investment property, Toronto is the place to do it. Here you will find everything from detached and semi-detached homes to condominiums, townhomes, bungalows, and more.

Standard of living in Toronto

Toronto has one of the highest standards of living in the world. But don’t take our word for it. The Global Liveability Index 2023’s Liveability Report recently ranked Toronto ninth across the globe for standard of living. The report looked at factors like infrastructure, stability, healthcare, culture & environment, and education, and Toronto came out on top in all five categories.

Something wonderful about Toronto

According to the Guiness Book of World Records, the PATH is the world’s largest underground shopping complex. It is located in downtown Toronto and connects to Union Station, along with 70 other buildings in the city’s Financial District. It also features over 1,200 retail stores spread out over 30 kilometres of underground real estate.
